A run-flat 16-inch tire is a tire with a 16-inch diameter that is designed with reinforced sidewalls or an internal support ring. This technology allows the tire to temporarily support the vehicle's weight even after a puncture, giving the driver the ability to continue driving for a limited distance—typically up to 50 miles at a maximum speed of 50 mph—to a safe location or a service center. Vehicles with these tires do not require a spare tire and must be equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) to alert the driver when a tire loses pressure.
